Nike SB x Polar Air Trainer I Shoes

Built in collaboration with Swedish Polar Skate Co, the Nike SB Air Trainer 1 brings an iconic eighties design to the forefront of 21st century style. A black suede overlay decorates the toe cap and heel counter, laid over contrasting white leather on the toe vamp which has been perforated for improved breathability. A branded rubber strap has been added at the base of the lacing unit, with the deep royal blue Polar text matching the lateral panels. More branding includes a black leather swoosh on the side panel, a woven label on the tongue showcases the brands’ iconic Swoosh and Stroke logos and Nike Air embroidery is in place on the heel in blue. The outsole is finished in gum, which spills up onto the midsole to cut through the clean white trim.

The Air Trainer 1 was designed by none other than Tinker Hatfield, intended to be an all-around performance shoe. Leather and suede create a durable design that's rugged-yet-adaptable nature lends itself well to skating, while maintaining a silhouette lightweight enough that it doesn’t hold you back. The iconic strap helps maintain a secure fit, while its raised collar ensures ankle support. Finally a full length air unit provides cushioning in every step, no matter the sport.

The Air Trainer 1 resolved an issue of eighties sports enthusiasts, who had to carry several shoes for a single gym session (something lightweight for running and something sturdy for weight lifting). Which caught on to the likes of John McEnroe as well as some NBA players.
